ON PHILIPPINES. Philippine Treasure

by on Sep.12, 2011, under In My Opinion, Philippines, TV Shows

Last night, September 11, 2011 at around 10:30PM, GMA News and Public Affairs had a documentary about the Philippine Treasure and yes, I watched it.

While I was watching the documentary, I felt a lot of emotions. I was happy, sad, excited, worried.

Happy, I get to see what our ancestors have done and it shows that before any Philippine Invasion, are ancestors have the knowledge of carving, weaving, molding, etc. And that the Philippines was a force yet to be acknowledged. And I get to see the “family-heirloom” of the Philippines.

Sad, because some of the treasures are broken(but hey, they are in the custody of the Philippine Government), some of them are missing, some are not in the custody of the Philippine Government. And most especially, we (the Filipino People) won’t be able to continue our ancestors’ legacy, the “family-heirloom” will not be passed onto the next generation.

Excited and worried at the same time what will happen next? Will the experts be able to combine the broken treasures? Will they able to make it as if nothing has happened? Will the Philippine Government have the custody of the two treasures that are now at Chicago? Will the generation now, be able to pass on the “family-heirloom”? These questions keep running into my mind.

As said on the documentary, 500,000 people ONLY visit the Philippine National Museum, and that includes the foreigner. I mean cmon, we don’t we visit our National Museum BUT we want to visit other country’s museum, sad. If we think we know all our history, well, THINK AGAIN. From the Maitum Jars to the Golden Tara to the burial ceremony. We have tons to learn about our colorful history. This is why, I want all of my readers/followers, to please visit the Philippine National Museum, surely  you won’t regret it. :)

IN MY OPINION. Greek

by on Aug.07, 2011, under In My Opinion, TV Shows

Fraternities and Sororities.

greekLast friday, August 5 2011, I watched Greek’s series finale episode. Although, I’ve watched this before, tears ran down through my face. I guessing I’m not the only one, right?

After 4 years of Greek, its time to bid goodbye – goodbye to college fantasies. It sure is a bittersweet moment. But hey, everything must come to an end.

When I first watched Greek, second year of college, I did relate to everyone. Rusty searching for someone to accept him. Cassie worrying about the future. Cappie not worrying about the future and living every present moment. Evan who has a planned future. All of these are experienced and are being experienced by college students. This is why the Greek Row is created. To find the place wherein we can fit, people who can accept us for us. And for alumni to help the present people(in their respective houses)to land a job, connections.

And now I’m wondering, does the Philippines and the USA have the same “meaning” of fraternities or sororities. I mean, all that I’ve heard of are ramble here and there of these so-called fraternities. Well, yeah, they accept other people to join their fraternities, but the initiation is different from here and there. Now, I’m wanting to be part of the Greek Row.

Why not have the Greek Row here in the Philippines? In here we are sure that students will be able to find brothers/sisters(friends) that will last a lifetime. Brother/Sister that will help their fellow brother/sister in their studies or problems, they would give each other advice on professors and life. And they have to have a maintaining GPA each semester/term for the house to still be intact. And have a Greek Row Olympics through this the Greek Row will be able to have fun. Plus cooperation, teamwork and camaraderie among the people of each house will be strengthened. Plus, the alumni of the respective houses of Greek Row will be able to help the people running now their houses to land a job. Each house can have a cocktail party with their alumni and discuss such matters. There are many positive side in having such Row but hey, this might be the end of “fraternities and sororities” here in the Philippines.

THE LAST PRINCE

by on Jan.13, 2010, under In My Opinion, TV Shows

GMA’s The Last Prince, reminded me of three Disney shows, as of now.

  1. Beauty and the Beast
  2. Sleeping Beauty
  3. Snow White and the Seven Dwarves

Why? you might ask.

Beauty and the Beast – Well, Almiro, the guy, has to find true love, despite the fact that he is ugly, before the light on the three candles are off.

In the movie, Beast has to find true love, despite the fact that he is a beast, before the petals of the rose falls.

Sleeping Beauty – Well, Alwana, and her daughter, Bawana wasnt invited to the gathering in Paladino (Almiro’s soon-to-be-kingdom, he is the successor of his father to rule the kingdom). Even though they are not invited, they still crashed the party. And they gave a curse to Almiro.

In the movie, the villain is not invited in Aurora’s birthday, still she insisted in going. And she gave a curse to Aurora.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarves – Bawana, would use a magical mirror as her tool to be a look out for Almiro, in and out of Paladino.

In the movie, the evil wicked witch would use a magical mirror to ask for the fairest woman in the kingdom, when the magical mirror said that it was Snow White, she used this to locate and to be a look out for Snow White.

Although, the stories are not that similar, (well, it is somehow similar) the elements are the same.

  1. to find true love, before the light on the three candles are off; find true love, despite the fact that he is a beast, before the petals of the rose falls.
  2. Alwana, and her daughter, Bawana wasnt invited to the gathering in Paladino still crashed the party. And they gave a curse to Almiro; illain is not invited in Aurora’s birthday, still she insisted in going. And she gave a curse to Aurora.
  3. magical mirror.
